Greetings to all of you lovely people!
The first harvest date is always such a tricky thing to predict. Each variety has its own individual requirements; everything that grows is dependent upon sunshine and soil temperature.
So we plan, make lists, check and re-check the calendar. We plant, transplant, water, watch, weed, worry, chase away rabbits, and repeat as needed.
The trickiest part is deciding exactly which day to begin! Start too soon, you don't have enough items ready. Start too late, and you run the risk of losing a row of tender lettuce.
Good news! Today's walkabout indicates that it's time to start picking.
Thursday June 11th will be our official start date for 2009.
Half of our members will pick up on Mondays, and the other half on Thursdays. Half-share members pick up every other week, so some of you won't start for a while yet.
Pickup times will be 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Each of you will be contacted with your pickup day and time. Look for yours in your email or by phone.
Any questions? Please feel free to phone or email us, and we'll be happy to answer them.
Here's to a lovely season!
